taking photos of picture takers

September 3rd, 2010

Well, I’ve mentioned in previous posts how I’ve met some amazing people over the last year… Well some of them just happen to be talented, hardworking moms and photographers around Red Deer also.  It’s been great meeting other woman who are also in the same business of photography.  Now, if you know me, you may know that I am somewhat of a chataholic.  That’s why I’ve enjoyed meeting other people to talk photography about, and so is my DH Chad.  Goodness knows that Chad could be a photographer as I’ve probably talked his ear off about it!  For me it’s been nice to have met other people in the industry that understand this business.  Talking shop with other people is great! But it’s also great to meet other moms who balance it all, the late editing hours and women with as much creativity and talent behind that shutter finger :) We got together for a little fun with the cameras, some supper yummy pizza and did a little dancing!

Meet Deanna.  She is central Alberta’s Premier photographer.  Her style and work is amazing.  I am super grateful that she has helped me with  all the questions I’ve had along the way.  Plus she totally has some sweet glass she lets me play with ;)

Meet Melissa, a talented photographer from Stettler that is also strong and determined.

Meet Jeniffer. Her stunning newborn work, and glowing black and white portraits are beautiful!

I’ve also met Penny, a lifestyle photographer from the Lacombe area.

And Allison, a fun and hardworking portrait and wedding photographer also from Red Deer.

Happy Anniversary!!

August 22nd, 2010

This weekend, hubby and I had the opportunity to share some alone time to be a couple, and share a few moments without the screaming, crying or constant blabber from a 3 year old.  We were able to share a dinner, steam bath, massage and some shopping time together!  It was great, and did the typical things like talk about the kids, and even brought them home something  :)  My sweet DH and I have been married for 8 years this year, and after this long, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to everything always being perfect.  We’ve been dating since I was 18, so that means that in my total of life, I have spent it with the same person already 40% of my life!

I also have been taking on photos as a creative outlet for a year also this year!  In the last year I would also be lying if I didn’t say I haven’t learned a tonne, been ever this inspired, or met some of the cool people in this amount of time!  I’ve had so much fun meeting new people and experiencing some great moments with others.  The joy of holding and photographing all the tiny newborns, hanging out with some cool kids doing some fun things and working with some really great families along the way!  I also enjoy processing photos, learning new techniques to enhance the way  I see things, like you :)  I hope that you have enjoyed looking at my work.  I look forward to working with future clients that appreciate not only quality porducts, but my work artistically.  If you love my work and my style, then they are the photos that you can proudly displayed lovingly around your home.

As a way to celebrate two big anniversaries in one, I am running a special for clients that book a session within the next  1 week!

Photo session must be paid at same time as booking and does not include newborn sessions.

Book your session before Aug 30th, and you will recieve:

1 full session

$100 print credit  (can be applied to prints or digital images)

$175

for a savings of 30%!!

August 16th, 2010

I had the pleasure to spend a few extra special moments with Char, and her two amazing kids, Jadeynn and “Jazzy” as she wants to be called (for the “rest of her life” she told me)  Char is a great mother, who is planning to go back to school in the very near future. Her kids are growing up into preteens and has seen the last few years wiz by her as a mom with young kids.  I am glad that she is finally getting the opportunity to do something for herself!  I’ve had the opportunity to watch Jadeynn and Jazzy change over the last many years, and they are some of the best kids I know.  Char, I hope you feel beautiful darhling, you deserve to feel great!  And wow, them great kids…..props girl :)  XOX

summer

August 8th, 2010

I hope you are having a good one :)  This weekend my family and I spent a quiet afternoon at a local u-pick, the Jungle farm.  It is a great place just outside of my town.  If you live nearby, you should really check them out!    By quiet I mean there was *nobody* else there.  It was a fairly hot day, so we didn’t spend that much time outside picking berries.  Just enough raspberries (my fave) to almost fill a basket and eat over the next few days :)  The girls had fun, but they were more interested on playing on the equipment that they have.  A huge wooden boat and a train, could have kept them busy for hours…..  I had a good time too, mostly because I was able to escape for a few moments to have fun, with my camera of course.  There was a huge amount of flowers to photograph, but my favorite was the sunflowers!  Happy summer everyone, I hope you are enjoying these warm summer days while they last :)

30 things about me.

August 7th, 2010

I thought since I have posted some pictures of me recently, and that you know what I look like, I’d share 30 random tidbits about the real me.  (because I did turn 30 this year… YIKES!)  Maybe you’ll run into me, or hire me for your next photo session.  Knowing some quirky things might make you feel more comfortable when I’m hiding behind the camera at our next session!  I have to say, I am grateful for all the people that hire me who I don’t know.  I appreciate the referalls, and the kind words about my work and style of photographs.  It’s fun meeting so many new people, from clients to other photogs too!  Ok, so here we go ;)

1)  I hate pieces of black lint.  I always think it’s a bug.

2)  I like candy.  Lots of it.  Bad sweet tooth!!

3)  you probably didn’t know this, but I love the colour purple.  It’s been a long going obsession.

4) I grew up in a isolated small town of less than 2,500.

5) In my early years the house next door to me was often vacant.  So, I made up an imaginary friend with the name Suzy.  She lived there, and I would always pretend to pick her up and visit her.   Then when I got older, a girl with the name Suzy actually moved there.  I only knew her for a short time before I had to move to another town.

6) I’ve always wanted to be left handed.  I usually make note when I see someone who is.  I don’t know why.

7)  I like using even numbers on volume controls and microwaves.

8)  I don’t wear alot of jewelry.  Small stud earrings and wedding rings.  If I wear a watch or even a belt I feel too dressed up.

9)  There are no words for how much I hate shoe shopping

10)  I enjoy learning and doing crafty type things.  I like to create beautiful things with my hands.  On that note, I can’t draw much more than a mean stick man LOL ;)

11)  I used to cut my hair really short and dye it strange colours biweekly.  (when Chad met me it was actually blue at the time :)

12)  I could never be a vegetarian.  I like eating meat

11)  One of my daughters names I picked when I was 16

12)  I’ve always wanted a restored vintage VW bug or bus

13)  I miss my dad everyday, for almost three years now.

14)  I still take my pillow with me on overnight trips

15)  Being in the mountains is one of my favorite places.  I always tell Chad I want to move in the middle of nowhere in the mountains, raise my kids and be a hermit, lol!!

16)  I don’t like when my food touches on my plate.

17)  I love the smell of clean laundry from the dryer, the smell of fresh play-dough, and Scotch brand tape.

18)  When I was a teen, I tin foiled my entire bedroom.  yup so awesome!

19)  Almonds are my favorite nut, Raspberries my favorite fruit and Tiger my favorite ice cream!

20)  I hate coconut, kiwi’s, tomatoes and especially mushroom and all it’s fungi.  sick and yuck!

21)  I’m really tired of  rude people.  I think alot of people need to take a course on how to properly treat other people.

22)  My toes are perfect.  I’d say they are my best feature :)

23)  The small town I live in now is actually the place I’ve called “home” for the longest period of my life.  Although I’ve lived here longer than anywhere, I know the least amount of people here.  I’ve lived in 4 different small towns and one city and many different houses along the way.  I treasure things that have made it along all the moves.

24)  The older I’ve become the more introverted I’ve become.  I’m not as outgoing as I once was :(

25)  I am  nocturnal.  I hate mornings.

26)  Broken crayons make me kinda sad.

27) Chad and I have been dating since I was 18.  We met in a bar and moved in together after a few months of dating, and have been together 12 years, married 8 this year!

28)  I still have a pair of runners in perfect condition my mom bought me when I was 16.  They were too big at the time and I thought they were nerdy, so I never wore them.  My mom said I’d grow into them.  Well it’s been 14 years and they still sit in my closet unworn, still a little too big, but maybe they’re cool now? LOL!

29)  I used to be a terrible nail bitter.  I wore gel nails for years and I’ve managed to kick the habit and grow my own now

30)  I’m an avid recycler.  Don’t make me pick your garbage :)

The neighbor girls

August 6th, 2010

Today I had a great day with my neighbor and her two sweet girls.   Karen and I actually went to the same small town high school and ended up living in the same neighborhood, in another small town.  (such a small world) Our daughters Julia and Amika enjoying playing together.  It is fun to watch them play together, listen to the things they say to each other and the things they pretend. We get together on random days enjoying the sun and summer in the back yard with the kids!  Madison is so cute and so ready to be motoring any minute!  It was a great quick session with these two, the misquitoes were just horrible in the woods.  We sprayed for bugs in between dress changes, hair pretties, a tutu, 4 girls running around and a camera :)

product

July 28th, 2010

I have been receiving alot of order lately, and wanted to take some pictures before they flew out of the house.  I always am rushing to get everyones orders out, that I never have time to take a photo to show you!  I have a few examples of products that you may like to see, for your future orders :)

The first are the brag books, which were ordered from a newborn session in a chocolate brown silk Cover.  It was also made from gorgeous linen textured, earth friendly, wind-generated electricity specialty paper.

These are the examples of standouts.  I had one of Chad’s favorite pictures of me mounted for his office.  (He’s so proud he took them too :)  I already have a collection started on his office wall.  ( Although we do need a new family one, that will be the big one!)  This is an 11 x 14, which isn’t really that big.  Infact, it is too small to hang on a wall alone, but like I said, I am doing a collection on a smaller wall.  I wish you could see how great the finish on this product is.  It is so lux with it’s pearl finish.  WOW!  what a difference a great product makes!  Honestly, this is a finish you have to see to appreciate!

Here is a look at some of the tags I attach to my various product orders!

Rayn

July 26th, 2010

Well Peeps, are you surprised that my last newborn session was another beautiful baby girl?!  I am starting to wonder where all the baby boys are?  Anyway, Baby Rayn came to visit when she was just 5 days new.  She was just over 6lb, but full of sweetness!  Being a third baby, mommy was pretty relaxed about the whole session, and even let me take her outside, since it was a beautiful day.  I was pretty happy to capture ONE photo of Rayn and her brother and sister too :) They were so good with her!  Baby Rayn really made me work for all the beautiful photos, and I know mommy is super eager to see them ;)  I’m really glad to have clients so happy to see their photos that they will treasure forever :)  It is such a great feeling capturing a newborn so small, fresh and so new to the start of life.  A newborn is only a newborn for such a teeny moment in time, that capturing them is such a great feeling that I love to share threw photographs.  Congratulations Cindy and family, on the new addition of a new (gorgeous) baby girl to add to your family :)

Lilly

July 22nd, 2010

You’ve all probably been wondering when the next newborn would be visiting my studio.  I know.  I too have been having tiny baby withdrawls:)  (In case you can’t tell, it’s my favorite session!) Well, miss lilly finally made her entrance into the world!  This families lives have been greatly blessed with the joy of another girl in their house hold!  (GO team Pink!!) Lilly came for a visit at only 4 days new, and was an *amazing* baby!   She was sooo good to me, I could have taken pictures of her for an entire day, and I think she would have still slept the whole time!  She only woke up once, and it was to give me the biggest smile I’ve EVER seen from a newborn!  She was litterly sleeping, woke up, smiled as big as you can imagine, and drifted off to sleep again.  Infact, I think she had a smirk on her face threw the entire session.
